A NEW mayor has been elected in Dalton.

Cllr Craig Anthony Fox says he is honoured to be the new mayor of Dalton after taking over from Cllr Nick Perie this week.

He said: “Being given the opportunity to become Mayor of Dalton with Newton Town Council is a pleasure and an honour.

“I look forward to representing the town and working closely with all the tight-knit community groups we have to make the town safer and cleaner as well as bringing prosperity and maintaining the great community spirit which Dalton has shown.”

Cllr Fox will be in the role for the next 12 months and is looking to improve the town’s prospects.

Cllr Fox explained: “Some of the priorities together with all other council members are to keep the town tidy and clean, bringing new business opportunities to Dalton, bonding together of all the hard working and committed community groups and making the town a place people would like to visit.

“Dalton has a great historical background as the ancient capital of Furness and we look forward to promoting all that we as a community have to offer.

“I will, like all previous Mayors and councillors, hope to do the very best I can in making Dalton into a well respected and loved town.

“The council’s work is a continuing co-operation involving groups of dedicated people who try to make a difference and I am confident we can all achieve things together.”

The new mayor has also paid tribute to his predecessor.

He remarked: “Nick has been excellent in his work and has had a difficult and arduous time with all the covid restrictions being Mayor during this period of time, on behalf of all the council and I am sure on behalf of all the town folk, we would like to thank him for his service and are happy that he remains a great member of the council.”
