READERS have pointed to a lack of public toilets after human excrement was found near a new South Lakes park.

The waste was spotted near Ulverston's Ford Park, with councillors condemning the incident.

However, some readers have argued there should be more public toilets to stop these instances from happening.

One reader said: "What do you expect when there's no toilets???

"A couple of portaloos would be good when cafe is closed. Nearest public loos are up the Gill. I've been at the park on busy weekends with my daughter, seen loads of people gathering and having a few beers, nothing wrong with that, but people need to use the toilet, so they use the bushes. At least provide essential amenities, and know where near enough bins on the park, try adding at least another five dotted about. There's no excuse for littering but kids are lazy when they have to walk full length of the park to put rubbish in the bin.

More bins and toilets will solve the problem."

Another reader added: "Quite agree. Austerity Britain with 70 per cent cut to government support to local authorities - net result [is] no public toilets."

Bottles and food were also found near the park.

One reader says litter is a widespread problem.

They said: "It is disgusting that people leave their litter behind you only have to look at roadside along the A590 people just chuck litter from their cars. Regarding the excrement, if more public toilets were available people wouldn't get caught short."
