CUMBRIA Libraries are appealing for young volunteers for their Summer Reading Challenge.
The annual reading event aims to encourage young people aged 4-11 to keep reading over the summer holidays.
Young volunteers aged 13 to 24 are being asked to apply to help run the event, and full training will be provided.
A spokesman for Cumbria Libraries said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is always very popular in Cumbria and this is a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to be part of a team, building confidence and developing creative skills as they talk to children about the books they’ve read and help staff with activities both online and in the library.”
The theme of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge is “Wild World Heroes”, which the organisers hope will ‘inspire young readers to stand up for our planet’.
The event is produced by UK charity The Reading Agency.
Volunteers can apply by calling Barrow Library on 01229 407370 or online at http://orlo.uk/yPczH.
