Like many villages in South Lakeland, there is a strong sense of community spirit in Allithwaite.
Located just over a mile west of Grange-over-Sands, that spirit has shown itself over the years in the effort that local people have put into staging Allithwaite Carnival.
In July 1991, the weather was kind, with sunshine blazing down on the playing fields during the afternoon.
The cup for the best decorative vehicle was won by Allithwaite Primary School.
The parade marshal and the compere for dancing was Mr B Leviston.
The judges for the dancing classes were Sandra Wilson and her daughter Heather.
Flookburgh Band entertained during the afternoon.
The St John Ambulance team from Barrow was present for the carnival.
The fall race attracted 24 boys and girls from Allithwaite Primary School and two from Park View School at Barrow.
The winners were: 1 Leslie Hodgson, Allithwaite School; 2 Jane Gilliland, Park View, Barrow, 3 Lee Mckeever, Park View, Barrow, 4 Craig Turner, Allithwaite School, 5 Jamie Copeland, Allithwaite School.

18 and over: 1 Memorial shield Mary Cosgrove donated by the Imperial School of Dancing: 1 Minstrel Magic, Imperial, 2 Adam’s Antics, Tapettes, 3 Bonnie and Clyde, Christine Hart.
