BARROW councillor Ben Shirley is tackling dog fouling around Dalton North.

Last week, the Dalton North councillor went on a dog fouling patrol with Streetcare and police reminding dog walkers to pick up their pet's waste.

Cllr Shirley said: "We’ve been pushing for tough action against irresponsible dog owners for a while, and I’m pleased that the council’s Streetcare team have responded with these proactive patrols across Dalton North.

"The patrol was great for many reasons, including raising awareness of the responsibilities of those who are out exercising their dogs. For example, while we were out, some walkers were surprised to learn that it’s a requirement that dogs are kept on a lead on any public land in our Borough.

"We will continue to patrol our area to raise awareness of the importance of doing the right thing when out with your dog, so that our community sees a reduction in dog fouling left on our streets."
