Readers of The Mail have backed a former Barrow postmistress.

Isabella Wall was accused of theft and fraud by the Post Office in the midst of its accounting scandal.

Despite the employer knowing their Horizon IT system had faults, the Post Office left Mrs Wall jobless and bankrupt in 2017.

The 71-year-old is now calling for compensation and some readers have come out in support of her.

Jane Arrowsmith said: "The terrible accusations and stress these people went through - any amount of compensation will not give them back those lost years."

Gordon Bayliff commented: "Compensation should be automatic never mind having to push for it, this is a complete scandal, wrecked honest hard working people lives."

Sylvia Stoker added: "Compensation must be paid. These poor people have gone through hell because of ignorant leaders at the post office."

On Friday, thirty-nine former subpostmasters who where wrongly convicted of theft, fraud and false accounting because of the Horizon IT system had their names cleared by the Court of Appeal. With the convictions now quashed, some readers say there needs to be sanctions.

One reader said: "Paula Vennels CEO from 2012 to 2019 and awarded a CBE for services to the Post Office. At the very least she should be stripped of her CBE."

Another reader added: "Those responsible should be punished. It was obvious something was wrong, and those in control destroyed the evidence of faults in the system."
