A TRAFFIC survey is being carried out over road safety fears.

Data is being collected following concerns that motorists are driving too fast in Dalton.

Fears over speed and road safety were heightened following the crash which killed three members of the Flynn family on Abbey Road last year.

Drink driver David Logan, of Broughton Road in the town, was jailed for 10 years last week for causing death by dangerous driving.

Councillors have voiced concerns over the frequency of accidents in certain points in the town.

Cumbria County Council said the survey was being carried out to gather feedback for updating traffic modelling in the Barrow borough.

The roads involved in the traffic survey are Broughton Road, Ulverston Road, Abbey Road, Greystone Lane and Newton Road.

Dalton South Councillor Steve Nott is among those who raised fears over possible speeding through the town.

He has raised the prospect of installing more signage to better signify changes in speed limits or traffic calming measures.

Community figures last year called for action to stop boy racers travelling at high speed through cramped streets in the town.

Calls were made to introduce digital speed awareness - and for drivers to temper their speed.

Craig Fox, the deputy mayor of Dalton, said speeding had been an issue in the town for a 'long time' and urged people to adhere to the speed limit.

Ulverston Road has been reported as a problem area for speeding drivers.
