Nursery children have been celebrating the Queen’s birthday with their very own garden tea party.

Pupils at The Old Vicarage and Hollingarth Nursery in Barrow have been tucking into scones and cucumber sandwiches in commemoration of the Queen turning 95.

Both nurseries learned about the heritage of the Royal family and explored interest tables on Buckingham Place, the Household Cavalry, the Union flag and much more.

Hollingarth held their very own garden party with a full banquet in honour of the Queen, who is a big fan of the traditional British garden party.

At the Old Vicarage, the Robin class held a High Tea in their snack room, tucking into scones, cucumber sandwiches and cupcakes.

The Old Vicarage Robin class teacher Rachel Smith said the children were ‘so excited’ to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday and even held a parade in her honour.

She said: “I think it is so lovely to teach the children about the heritage of our country and the tradition of the royal family.

“The children have been so excited to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday, we even held a parade in the playground beating drums and waving flags.

“The children also held their own version of the traditional gun salute to honour the memory of Prince Philip.

“We used party poppers on our little bridge in the playground.

“It has been a very educational day and we have written to the Queen multiple times this year updating her on what we do here in nursery and offering our love and support.

“One of our Robins, Neve, drew a most beautiful picture of the Queen’s own jockey silks that she uses for her racehorses and accompanied with a little photo of a racehorse.

“We know how much the Queen adores her horses so we put it in her card that we sent for her birthday.”

At Hollingarth Day Nursery the whole pre-school bubble were able to enjoy an outdoor banquet with their teachers Paige McDermott and Tamica Donald.

Ms McDermott said it was ‘lovely’ to celebrate the monarchy who embodies British values.

She said: “British values are a massive part of our curriculum here at Hollingarth and it is lovely to celebrate the birthday of our monarch who embodies all of those values.”
