THE number of coronavirus cases has risen more than 60 per cent in Furness in a week.

The latest seven-day data released by Public Health England revealed there were 20 confirmed cases in the week ending April 7 - eight more than the previous week.

The case rate per 100,000 is 29.8 which is slightly above the national average of 28.7.

Seven–day rates are expressed per 100,000 population and are calculated by dividing the seven day count by the area population and multiplying by 100,000.

The number of cases is also broken down by ward in Barrow.

The areas with the highest number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 are Ormsgill & Hindpool which recorded three new cases in a week and Swarthmoor & Low Furness which also had three confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Roose, South Walney and Barrow Island, North Walney, Parkside, Abbotsmead and Salthouse and Hawcoat and Furness Abbey all recorded less than three cases in the week ending April 7.

For smaller areas with fewer than three cases, Gov.uk does not show data to protect individuals' identities.

No data was also shown for Dalton South, Askam, Dalton North and Ulverston as there were fewer than three cases in each ward.

A total of 28,035 people have had Covid-19 in Cumbria, the latest figures show.

It comes after Public Health England changed the way it recorded the figures from Friday.

The number of positive cases reported in Cumbria by 9am on Monday was 24 lower than on Thursday.

Overall, the average rate of infection in Cumbria now stands at 5,607 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the England average of 6,791.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases was 3,022 higher than on Thursday, with the total now standing at 4,373,343.
