A mental health charity is expanding to fill a local gap.

Mind In Furness is now delivering support in Ulverston with a view to ensuring those who are in need of help in the town will be able to receive it.

Ulverston Town Council took to social media to promote the move.

“If you are in Ulverston and in need of support, give them a ring and they can see if they can help," they said.

“They’re currently offering gardening groups, along with weekly peer support.

“The telephone support team will soon be launching a counselling service.”

Michael Cassells, community engagement worker for Mind in Furness, said the charity was 'here to help'.

He said: “We are offering support to people in Ulverston as we are in Barrow, Dalton and Millom.

"We will hope to make some more positive announcements about services in the near future.”

Last year, the Ulverston branch of Mind closed and Councillor Sharon Webster, the town's mayor, described the closure as ‘devastating for the community'.

Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell noted the ‘very sad’ news at the time.

The announcement that Mind in Furness was extending its geographical reach came as Nuffield Health reported that about 80 per cent of British people working from home felt that lockdown had had a negative impact on their mental health, while a quarter of those said they were finding it difficult to cope with the emotional challenges of isolation.

The new number for Mind in Furness is 01229 827094.
