A town in the Lake District is among the most searched for areas in the UK, a new study has revealed.

The figures revealed the internet’s 20 most searched for towns and villages with a population of under 20,000.

Ambleside came in at number 17 on the list, with 27,400 monthly searches.

Further north, Keswick featured at number nine, with 40,890 monthly searches.

Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire was 10th with 40,570 monthly searches.

Portmeirion in Gwynedd, North Wales claimed the top spot, with 110,000 searches.

Whitby, North Yorkshire and Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucesteshire completed the top three.

The data was compiled Likibu, a leading holiday rental search engine, using digital marketing tools.
