THE local coastguard issued a warning to residents to be vigilant on the beach after being called out to help their colleagues with a quicksand incident in Morecambe Bay yesterday.

The casualty was taken out of danger quickly so the call was put through to the team to stand down as they were en-route across Morecambe Bay to Arnside.

A spokesperson for Furness Coastguard said yesterday: “Furness Coastguard were paged today at 12.17pm to support our flank team Arnside Coastguard with a person stuck in quicksand at Arnside.

“As the team were en-route to the scene an update came through from Holyhead that the casualty was now thankfully out of danger and the team were stood down.

“We would like to remind people to remain vigilant while at the beach.

“With lockdown restrictions being lifted along with the warm weather and school holidays, we are expecting our coast line to be busy with people so you will notice the team putting on extra safety patrols in our area.

“Remember, if in danger around the coast, or you think someone else is dial #999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
