A CUMBRIAN woman has been congratulated by the deputy leader of Barrow Borough Council after she became the eighth premium bonds millionaire from the county.

She is one of two people to win the £1 million jackpot this month.

Cllr Lee Roberts, deputy leader of Barrow Borough Council, who represents the Parkside ward, congratulated the lucky winner.

He said: "It’s nice to hear.

"After what we’ve been through in the last year-and-a-half, imagine having that unexpected good news land on your doorstep.

"It must be a real boost to an individual or family.

"Let’s hope that they can get outside and enjoy the luxury of having an unexpected windfall just as we’re hopefully leaving behind the restrictions of the pandemic.

“I hope they take full advantage of their new-found wealth and enjoy the advantages it will bring to their lifestyle.”

The first bond number drawn for April was 323PN679583. It is part of a £50,000 holding belonging to a woman in Cumbria and was purchased in February 2018.

The second number drawn was 422PG980526, belonging to a woman from Lothian in Scotland.

In the April 2021 prize draw, a total of 3,068,376 prizes - worth £88,215,800 - will be paid out.

105,858,958,006 bond numbers were eligible for the draw.

Since the first draw in June 1957, 519 million prizes - with a total value of £21.6 billion - have been drawn.

Premium bonds are an investment product issued by National Savings and Investment.

The Money Advice Service website states: "Unlike other investments, where you earn interest or a regular dividend income, you are entered into a monthly prize draw where you can win between £25 and £1 million tax-free."
