FIRE crews from Broughton Fire Station were called out to an open fire in Gawthwaite recently.
They were called out to a small fire in the open which had spread through a gate and fence and up to the edge of the road causing problems for passing traffic.
A spokesperson for the station said: "A short while after we arrived, the fire was extinguished and we damped down the surrounding area to ensure that it didn't reignite afterwards.
"While we had two firefighters operating the hosereel branch we also had two managing traffic on the road to keep us safe.
"Always remember, if you get waved through the scene of operations, keep your speed down and your eyes on the road as there is firefighters working in the area."
