A NEW podcast featuring stories and interviews with people who all have a link to Morecambe Bay has been launched.

The Morecambe Bay Podcast is the idea of former BBC journalist Nigel Thompson who grew up and has worked around the Bay for decades.

The first series of the podcast is now available and includes features on the Morecambe M.A.L.L.O.W.S. (Morecambe and Lancaster Lancashire Open Water Swimming) sea swimming club and an interview with RSPB Leighton Moss Visitor Experience Manager Jon Carter.

"There are a wealth of interesting stories around the Bay and podcasting gives the opportunity to hear from people in greater detail than ever," Nigel said. "During the latest lockdown what had been an idea became a reality and thanks to Zoom I was able to interview people remotely. As restrictions ease my plan is to get out and about to bring the unique sites and sounds of the area to a wider audience."

Future editions include interviews with historian Phil Martin and professional photographer Darren Andrews but many more subjects and stories are in the pipeline.

"I've worked in this area for years but I think listeners will be surprised at the range of guests who have agreed to appear on the podcast and also the passion they each have for their particular subject as well as Morecambe Bay," Nigel added.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple, Anchor and all main podcast sites. Just search 'Morecambe Bay.'
