Furness Coastguard were called out to assist with the search of a missing person during a training session last night at Earnse Bay.
The team was practising the recovery of a casualty from the bay's rock armour when Barrow Police arrived looking for a missing person.
A Furness Coastguard spokesman said: "The rescue equipment was quickly repacked ready to assist the police in a search.
"Luckily, the missing person was located by the police and the team returned to station.
"During our training session, several members of the public stopped for a chat with the officer in charge of the exercise, who was only too willing to explain the ongoing exercise and make a fuss of their dogs."
