A former Barrow shipyard worker will set off an adventure to raise money for Furness General Hospital.
Former submarines apprentice Darryl Dixon, who served for 30 years as a mechanical fitter and turner, will be cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats.
He now works for MOSS with a dedicated fitness campaign that is enabling him to take part in physically demanding events such as the Keswick-to-Barrow walk.
On May 22, Darryl will be setting off through the most southerly point in England to the northern tip of Scotland, with the aim of raising substantial funds for the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust and specifically Furness General Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
Darryl said: "As the K2B is not happening in May, I am looking to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats.
"I aim to complete the journey in six days – a total of approximately 1,000 miles and 52,000 feet of ascent.
"I'm always out on the bikes doing events and rides across the country.”
He will cover an average of 160 miles per day and will be supported by his friend Mike Cooper – himself a former Barrow Shipyard apprentice from the 1980s VSEL.
He added: "I did my apprenticeship at the shipyard many moons ago in the old Training School, they were happy days.”
