THE number of coronavirus cases has dropped 24.1 per cent in Furness in a week.

The latest seven-day data, up to March 13, released by Gov.uk showed there were 22 confirmed cases in the district, seven fewer than the previous week.

The case rate per 100,000 is 32.8 which is below the national average.

Seven–day rates are expressed per 100,000 population and are calculated by dividing the seven day count by the area population and multiplying by 100,000.

Simon Fell, MP for Barrow, said: "These figures reflect both the amazing work that is being done locally to get the vaccine into people's arms, and the fact that people are sticking to social distancing rules, wearing masks and washing hands.

"My thanks to the amazing teams of doctors, nurses, GPs, and volunteers who have got us to this amazing point."

The number of cases is also broken down by ward in Barrow and Furness, but there are only three wards in the Barrow area with enough cases (more than three) to warrant data being published on Gov.uk.
