A man charged with drug offences has been remanded in custody.

Michael Carl Younger was brought to court after he was charged with possession of two class A substances.

The 38-year-old was remanded after an appearance before the bench at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

Ban for drink-driver nearly four times the limit

A man who was caught nearly four times over the drink-drive limit has been banned from the road.

Brian Wakefield was charged after he drove his Nissan Pathfinder on Duddon Road in Askam on September 13.

The 54-year-old pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

A suspected drink driver has been given a hefty fine after she failed to provide breath for police.

Jean Price was charged after the incident at Bardsea on February 9.

She admitted the charge when she appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

Group to be sentenced over incident in town centre

Four people charged over an incident in Barrow town centre are due to be sentenced.

The group will appear at Preston Crown Court having been convicted of assaults on police officers in Cavendish Street.

The incident happened on November 10.

The defendants, who are all from Barrow, were charged with threatening unlawful violence.

A man who was accused of assault has been found not guilty.

Matthew David Coulton was alleged to have assaulted a woman in Barrow on November 21.

The 47-year-old defendant had denied the offence.

Court bans Barrow drink driver more than twice the limit

A Barrow woman has been banned from the road for 18 months for drink driving.

At South Cumbria Magistrates' Court Kirsty Nichola Goulding, 46, of Carlton Avenue, admitted that she had 74 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - over the limit of 35 - on February 7.

She was also fined £225.

Bargain Booze staff locked in Barrow teen wielding eight-inch kitchen knife

Courageous shop staff who helped police apprehend a teenager who ran into an off-licence holding a kitchen knife have been praised.

Dane Armstrong was hauled before magistrates after he committed the offence at a branch of Bargain Booze in Barrow.

The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing of knife in a public place.

Man convicted of assault against woman and police officer

A man is due to be sentenced after he assaulted a woman and a police officer.

Jacob Miller Barty Mason, of Barrow’s Salthouse Road, was found guilty of assaulting Tiffany Adams on May 14 last year and admitted that he assaulted PC Llewellyn on the same day.

The 34-year-old defendant is due to be sentenced for the offences on April 6 at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court after the case was adjourned.

Man, 39, fined £400 after admitting drug offences

A man has been convicted of two drug-related charges.

Christopher Chapples admitted that he attempted to supply cannabis on October 12 and that he had the class B drug in his possession on October 17.

The 39-year-old, of Grammerscroft in Millom, was fined £400 in total at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.

Pensioner accused of fraud reacts to extradition to Canada

A man facing extradition to Canada over fraud charges has been granted a temporary reprieve after he lodged a new appeal.

Peter Kevin Miller, of Grizebeck, is contesting the Home Office's decision to grant extradition to the country where his crimes were allegedly committed.

The Home Secretary Priti Patel had granted a Canadian application to extradite Mr Miller with British authorities due to remove him from the country this week.

Man who denies Facebook harassment to stand trial

A man has denied harassment on Facebook.

Mohammad Ramzan, 41, of Douglas Street, is alleged to have harassed Jason McCullough on social media between August 14 and 17 last year.

The defendant pleaded not guilty at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court and is due stand trial on April 20.

'It's not fair' - Man headbutted police officer in hospital

A man brought to hospital after he had gone missing headbutted a police officer in the chest.

Lee Wayne Cumberbatch, 24, targeted the officer after he had been taken to Furness General Hospital in a deliberate attempt to be arrested, a court heard.

The defendant, of Nelson Street in Dalton, admitted assault on an emergency worker when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

A motorist has been banned from getting behind the wheel after drug driving.

Kai James admitted he drove his Vauxhall Vivaro on Walney on August 22 with cannabis in his system.

The 23-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.

A man has been sentenced for possessing three drugs.

Ian Shadforth admitted that he was in possession of class A drug cocaine when he appeared in court.

South Cumbria Magistrates' Court heard the 56-year-old was also found to have had class C drugs tramadol and zopiclone in the incident on December 3.

Daughter of fraudster who led crime gang admits being part of fraud

The daughter of a fraudster who targeted businesses in south Cumbria has now admitted that she was also part of the audacious criminal plot.

Earlier this year, 39-year-old Sonia Malhi was jailed for 20 months after heading up a scamming gang which sought to dupe businesses in Kendal and elsewhere in the county.
