PLANS to hand out more than £400 million to help museums, theatres and galleries in England to reopen once coronavirus restrictions ease have been welcomed.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the Government Budget plans yesterday, which includes handing out £408 million to art venues.

Jakki Moore, of the Beggar's Theatre in Millom, hopes her venue will be eligible to receive the funding.

"I'm always positive but we didn't receive any of the last funding so we'll have to see," she said.

"Hopefully the funding will go to some of the smaller theatres this time because we really need it.

"Any financial help is something which we very much need at the moment.

"We didn't quite reach the financial threshold last time so I'm really hoping this time we qualify.

"Either way, we have shows booked in June and are ready to open our doors."
