South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) has warned the public about a telephone council tax scam.
The council has recently received reports of a scam involving people being contacted and asked for their bank account details in relation to their council tax.
An SLDC spokesman said: "We've been made aware of a telephone scam asking people for their bank details in relation to council tax.
"Please be aware that this has nothing to do with SLDC and we would never cold-call residents in this way to request bank details. Please be on your guard."
People can report scams to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040.
