The Government is deliberating whether to extend the summer term into the summer holidays, to allow pupils to catch up after the year-long disruption of Covid-19 on their education.

The Mail's readers have voiced their views on the subject.

Julie Higgs posted: “No, no, no – don’t you think they have been through enough? Hopefully by the summer holidays we will be able to get out and take the kids out for days out or a holiday.”

India Queen said: “No, not a chance.Teachers deserve a break themselves after what they’ve achieved through these lockdowns.”

Babs Grizedale said: “Seriously? Doesn’t anyone think they NEED a break too? Most schools have been open and teachers have had to prepare school bubbles and new timetables and they deserve some respect and peace before they all go and work in Tesco.

“Stand up for teachers, support them. They know what’s right for the children they care for, not London rich boys who know nothing.”

Joanna Copeland wrote: “I wish us nurses could have six weeks off to regenerate and reconnect with our families. Teachers need to crack on like the rest of us key workers.

“I’m sick of hearing about what they will and won’t do, most of us are working overtime and weekends to vaccinate everyone as well as our full time jobs!”

Jo Clara said: “Well I think for an extra few weeks yeah! Kids don’t need six weeks off – let’s face it they have already missed so much. So I would for an extra two weeks or something! That way they get best of both.”

Beth Rory Olliver said: “Yes because I think education is needed and no matter how hard us parents try with home schooling we are not teachers and can only do our best.

“I wouldn’t want my son falling behind because my home schooling wasn’t good enough.

“On the other hand do you not think teachers need a break too? They are amazing and have been working to look after key workers children, also sending work home for home schooling and doing it online.”

Jadey Rochelle Stagg said: “No. And we shouldn’t expect teachers to work it either.”
