RESIDENTS have been issued a warning of cold-callers in an area of Barrow recently by a public body.
Cumbria Trading Standards have received a report of concern regarding traders cold calling residents in the Hawcoat area offering to carry out roofing work.
The public body said: "One resident who was approached at their property was told by the 'roofer' travelling in a white transit van that they needed work carrying out on their roof.
"Please be cautious of any doorstep trader offering goods or services, they will often use persuasive or aggressive tactics to get you to agree to have work carried out and then charge far more than was quoted for poor quality work or goods.
"They often fail to provide a legally required cancellation notice which enables a householder to cancel the work in certain circumstances. "Our advice is to always say ‘NO’ to any cold callers and we ask that you look out for elderly or vulnerable family, friends and neighbours."
If you have been cold called or wish to report an incident please contact us via the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 0808 223 1133 or alternatively contact Cumbria Police on 101.
