The crew of the newly-named Astute submarine Anson have been busy sharing their expertise away from the BAE Systems shipyard.
Kind-hearted crew members of the fifth Astute have volunteered to help out at Barrow’s foodbank.
The idea to offer support came from Anson Commanding Officer David ‘Bing’ Crosby, who sees the benefits as two-fold – building team spirit within the crew and contributing to the charity.
“On joining Anson I set my teams the leadership task of working in small groups to support the local community,” said CO Crosby.
“The aim being to generate a team ethos within Anson personnel, many of whom have not worked together before, while also looking to support our host town.”
As a result, members of the Anson team have been sorting, lifting and packaging donations in recent weeks.
