A MEMBER of a Lake District mountain rescue team is set to take on a mammoth walking challenge of more than 250 miles to raise money for a new team base.

Janice Hamilton, assistant team leader at Coniston Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT), will tackle all 268 miles of the Pennine Way in May.

The route snakes from the Peak District all the way up to the Scottish borders.

Ms Hamilton will be taking on the route with dog Harlie in an effort to raise funds for a new base for CMRT.

The fundraising page says: "Demands have increased for more appropriate areas to house the casualties and their family and friends, and more space for the specialised equipment and training required, hence the decision to build a new one."

Her target is £2,000. Visit gofund.me/a7a8c033 to donate.
