A CUMBRIAN Tour guide is offering virtual experiences that can free people from the monotony of lockdown.

Tess Pike, of Cumbria Blue Badge Tourist Guide Training, has been hosting virtual tours for the county, most recently of Millom.

Her next location will be at the Roman forts located at the natural harbour formed by the confluence of the rivers Esk, Irt and Mite, and then inland to the fort at Hardknott.

Tess said: "My tours have been incredibly successful so far – at my last one that I did on Millom I had over 50 people there, and the feedback has been excellent.

"The Millom one was the second last of a series of six that I am doing focussing on the Western Lake District and Coast.

"The last one is the West Coast World Heritage Site: Rome’s western frontier and will be this coming Wednesday, evening, February 24.

"All of the tours that I have done so far have been in the evening at 7:00pm, but they have often clashed with evening meetings, so people who would like to have been unable to come.

"The Roman frontier tour will therefore launch a new series of what I’m calling “Afternoon Tea Tours” – the idea being that a virtual tour featuring beautiful imagery, sourced in part from professional photographers, would make perfect viewing while sitting back in the afternoon with a cup of tea and slice of cake."
