CUMBRIA Police have closed an investigation into an incident where three teenagers allegedly targeted a 15-year-old boy and pulled down his trousers during a sexual assault in a park.

Cumbria Police had launched the investigation last year following the report, which was said to have taken place at 7.30pm on August 11 in Walney’s Vickerstown Park.

According to police, the 15-year-old victim was approached by three boys aged between 16 and 17.

They made comments to him and attempted to pull his trousers down, it was claimed.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria Constabulary said: “The case was closed with no further action.”

No-one was charged and no arrests were made in connection to the incident.

At the time, Des Barlow, councillor for North Walney, labelled the incident as ‘disgusting’.

Reacting to the news the case has been closed, he said: “It should be used as a public park for everyone of all ages.

“When anything goes on like this, I just think it just should not be happening.

“The park does not have any gates on, but I don’t think the council would consider locking it at night for security.

“I just don’t think it would work due to the design of the park.

“There are different directions and places can enter the park you see.

“We never used to have this problem when I was living there. But this should not stop people enjoying the park.

“”This is especially prevalent now with Covid and the amount of people that get out for walks, that is one location they would go to.

“We just have to hope that people start behaving as they should. If someone sees anything like this happening, they should report it.”
