There have been renewed calls for a permanent street-cleaner in Dalton, after residents reported a rise in the amount of litter in the town.

Dave Taylor, chairman of Dalton Community Action, recently praised a family for litter-picking around the area and expressed his frustration at litter louts.

The Salthouse Cat posted: “Could community service not tie in with this?

"There seems to be plenty of people breaking the law. Instead of just fining them and allowing them to hastily reoffend, put them to task picking up litter and tidying the streets for hundreds of hours.”

Jonny Falloon said: “Litter not so much... dirty discarded face masks EVERYWHERE.”

Frankie 47 wrote: “I pick up litter regularly, and it is so depressing when you see the same places messed up.

“One thing that should be done is a clampdown on skip hauliers that have rubbish blowing out of the back. Also industrial waste e.g. huge plastic sheets that blow from yards alongside the road into Barrow. Then we have the takeaway leftovers that are thrown out of car windows.”

Northern Lass said: “Start fining the people who drop the litter and not cleaning up after their dogs. You would only need to do it a few months to pay for the extra bins needed.”

John Andrew Killip said: “My street looks like the recycling has been emptied everywhere, yet again. I wonder what I pay £130 per month for?”

Toni Law said: “Dalton is a disgrace now after the council removed Clayton and sent him to Barrow. Everyone says you can tell we don’t have him anymore!

“Bring back Clayton!”

Phil Marshall said: “I’ve done many a litter pick in Dalton and it feels a losing battle.

“Bring Clayton back! His replacements, who visit once a blue moon, are nowhere near as good.”
