A CARE home that has recorded no coronavirus cases for over eight months has even more cause for celebration after an inspection of its Covid-19 procedures.

Staveley House in Dalton received a visit from Care Quality Commission inspectors on January 14.

Inspector Paula Malaney called the care for residents ‘exemplary’ and assessed all aspects of Staveley’s care as being ‘good.’

The home, which sits under the umbrella of the Abbeyfield Care Homes system, has achieved to date 38 weeks of Covid-free care.

Angela Munroe, registered care manager for Staveley House, said: “I am so proud of everyone, both residents and staff alike.

“It takes a real team effort to ensure that all protocols are observed, especially at this challenging time with the pandemic, but everyone associated with the home has risen to this challenge, and I am delighted with the outcome of the inspection report.”

Throughout the pandemic, strict protocols have been observed at the home to ensure that the care of all residents is not compromised, including both staff and visitors.

Relatives of residents have mostly been allowed to continue to visit via a visiting room that has been specially adapted to ensure both the safety of residents and their loved ones.

Residents have also been able to maintain as much social contact with each other as the rules allow, taking part in a wide range of activities and events organised by member of staff and events co-ordinator, Joanne Rodgerson.

Staveley House Chairman Ian Smith said: “It is reassuring that the Care Quality Commission is examining the preparedness of care homes in relation to infection prevention and control during the pandemic.

“The inspection report found examples of good practice at the house.

“The report shows that those charged with running the home have adopted thorough and robust procedures to keep our residents safe.

“The report is a reflection of the care and dedication shown by the staff working at the house and it is truly remarkable that Covid 19 has been kept at bay. I am also pleased that our residents and staff have now received their initial vaccination.”
