NEW community awards have been launched to recognise the 'incredible ways' Cumbrian businesses have responded to the challenges of Covid-19.

The High Sheriff of Cumbria, Julie Barton, is launching the Cumbria Covid-19 Business Innovation and Community Awards to recognise the incredible ways businesses across Cumbria have confronted the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020.

Mrs Barton said: "The communities of Cumbria rely on their businesses and these awards aim to thank, acknowledge, and celebrate those business teams who have supported others, and demonstrated great adaptability and resilience.

"There will be special performance certificates for all Cumbrian businesses who meet the judges' criteria. In addition there will be three outstanding award category prizes of £250 each presented to the Cumbrian businesses which the judges believe most demonstrate outstanding performance during the pandemic: Micro Business Innovation Award, Small to Medium Business Innovation Award and Community-Spirited Business Award."

Closing date for applications is February 24.
