A MOTHER and father are very proud of their daughter for taking on one of the most important roles a person can today – looking out for those who cannot look after themselves.

Caitlin Kyte, 21, of Barrow, has been working as a carer for three-and-a-half years at Kingsfield Nursing home.

Her mother and father, Marc and Marie Kyte, spoke of how proud their daughter’s work had made them and praised her resilience and strong-headed determination to help others.

Marc said: “We are just so very proud of Caitlin. She’s been working almost 60 hours a week sometimes, and only has a day off before going back to it again. It really impresses us with what she is doing.

“Her grandmother had dementia, and ever since Caitlin was in school she wanted to work in the care industry. It really motivated her to try and help other people with the condition.

“She is so dedicated, but she’s always like ‘I’m no hero, it’s just a job that needs to be done’.

“Nothing fazes her. She just gets on with it. She’s really enjoyed working there. She loves the people, the staff, the residents, and her boss.

“Previously she did some work with the Salvation Army for people with mental illness.

“She does everything for the residents – baths them, feeds them, and keeps them company.

“I think it was her grandmother’s condition that motivated her for the future. Our grandmother was the queen of the family and nothing got past her. The care system gave her several good and happy years before she passed. Caitlin wanted to give other people that as well.

“Even in lockdown she’s taken every hour she can to work even while others haven’t been able to. She does a test every week and has very good training behind her.

“We are so proud of her. We’d love to see her a Furness General some day but she’s happy where she is at the moment.”

Caitlin’s mother, Marie said: “She’s just amazing. She’s always goes in early and takes overtime. For a girl of her age, she’s getting out there and has a great head on her shoulders.

“We keep asking if she ever thought about working for the hospital, but she says she’s happiest where she is for now.

“We are so proud of her.”
