THE GOVERNMENT'S latest mapped Covid-19 data has revealed which areas of South Cumbria have been the worst hit in the week leading up to January 12.
The data shows that Hawcoat and Furness Abbey is the worst hit area, with 58 positive cases recorded - an average of 770.3 cases per 100,000, and an increase of 75.8 per cent on the week prior.
The data has been mapped using Middle layer Super Output Areas. These are hyper local areas with an average population of 7,200 people.
Using Covid-19 testing data from Public Health England, positive cases of the virus have been mapped using these areas to record infection rates on a neighbourhood level.
Some of the most affected areas include:
- Walney Island South and Barrow Island: 33 cases - 553 per 100,000
- Walney Island North: 31 cases - 459.9 per 100,000
- Roose: 58 cases - 760.3 per 100,000
- Abbotsmead and Salthouse: 32 cases - 426.6 per 100,000
- Barrow Central: 28 cases - 424.7 per 100,000
- Ormsgill and Hindpool: 35 cases - 539.5 per 100,000
- Millom and Duddon Valley: 42 cases - 427.7 per 100,00
Other areas saw a decrease in cases. Some of these areas include:
- Dalton South: 17 cases - 306 per 100,000
- Swarthmoor and Low Furness: 12 cases - 155.4 per 100,000
- Ulverston: 25 cases - 307.3 per 100,000
- Windermere South and Staveley: 31 cases - 375.3 per 100,000
