Man appears for trying to meet with young girl

A man accused of attempting to meet up with a 13-year-old girl has been remanded in custody.

Lee Bond is alleged to have tried to contact the girl with a view to committing a sexual act.

The 34-year-old is alleged to have committed the offence in 2020.

At South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court, the defendant, of Redshaw Avenue in Barrow, was ordered to spend time in custody until appearing at Preston Crown Court on January 18.

Man appears for attempted possession

A man has been sentenced after he admitted attempted possession of a class A drug.

Latham Martin John Burke, of Barrow’s Raglan Court, pleaded guilty to attempting to possessing a quantity of heroin when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.

The 46-year-old was handed a 12-month conditional discharge for the offence.

The court ordered destruction of the substance, which was described as ‘brick dust/heroin. Burke was told to pay a £22 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Man sentenced to unpaid work

A Barrow man must carry out 45 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months after being convicted of assault.

Court documents state that 28-year-old Blake Christian Bailey, of Marsh Street, assaulted a person by beating him in October of last year. He pleaded guilty.

A community order was made stating that the defendant must carry out 45 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months. The documents state that this work will 'be supervised by the responsible officer'.

He was also given a restraining order.

Bailey was ordered to pay a surcharge of £95 to fund victim services. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Court documents state that the defendant's guilty plea at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court, Barrow, was taken into account when imposing a sentence.

Man stands trial for allegedly breaching order  

A 70-year-old man from South Lakeland is due to stand trial for allegedly breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

Court documents state the charge against David Charles Cecil Prospero, of Lowther Gardens, Grange, is that on February 19, 2020 he deleted his browsing history and installed 'cleansing' software on his internet-capable devices, and was in possession of an internet-capable mobile phone that he was prohibited from possessing by a court's sexual harm prevention order.

Prospero is due to stand trial at Carlisle Crown Court on February 5, 2021. He has been granted unconditional bail.

Woman faces charges over failure to report an accident

A woman who is alleged to have failed to report an accident will appear in court.

Leona Wilson, 38, of Castlehead in Grange, allegedly drove a black Mercedes in Kendal on August 7 without due care and attention.

It is said Miss Wilson approached the Brettargh Holt roundabout on the A590 but left the road, colliding with trees in the middle of the roundabout.

She is alleged to have failed to stop and did not report the accident.

Her court appearance at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court has been adjourned to January 22.

Man accused of assault

A man accused of assaulting a woman and a baby has appeared in court.

Matthew Michael O'Donnell is alleged to have caused actual bodily harm to the pair in an incident on August 21.

The 31-year-old, of Napier Street in Barrow, did not offer a plea to the charges when he appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

He is due to appear at Preston Crown Court for a hearing on February 12.
