A COUPLE who drew thousands of visitors to their lavish Christmas say they are 'overwhelmed' after raking in generous donations to charity.

Keith and Sharon Dacre attracted delighted crowds after they adorned their Dalton home with extravagant Christmas decorations.

Mr Dacre said there had been an increase in the number of visitors than in previous years of the festive tradition.

The pair have raised more than £750 through donations, which has been delivered to Furness Homeless Support Group.

Mr Dacre, 52, said: "It went really well.

"People have loved it

"We spent a lot of time talking to people outside social distancing - they've donated a heck a lot of money.

"It was quite overwhelming, it really shows the whole community spirit."

The home was awarded as the best decorated in the town by the Dalton Community Action Group.

Mr Dacre said hundreds of people had gone past every night and at one points was unable to get through his front gate.

Explaining his support for Furness Homeless Support, he said: "I don't like to see anybody homeless in this day and age.

"Every time I put my Christmas lights I want to give money to a worthy cause."

The brilliant display featured five Christmas trees, a parachuting Father Christmas, penguins and a musical lamppost alongside of number of festive delights.

It took 10 days to assemble and will mark the third time the family has turned their Tantabank home into a festive extravaganza, following 10 years of displays at their previous home.

The grandad and health and safety manager said people came from far and wide to see the lights, obeying social distancing rules.

The display took 'three of four days' to take down starting on January 6, the traditional day to remove festive decorations.

Explaining the decision to go ahead with the display, Mr Dacre said last year: "It's been a sad year for people but we just want to keep people smiling - we thought we could bring joy to the town."
