A COUNCIL waste collection service is struggling to operate due to pressure from adverse weather and the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Copeland Borough Council are "continuing to battle the icy frost and snow" from 33,000 households, as slippy roads took over Cumbria.

They said: "We may miss some collections when it is not safe, or we do not have the resources to do complete collections."

The waste collection team are also limited with the amount of bags they can take from each property.

They said: "We are no longer able to collect more than two additional bags due to the number of properties currently affected.

"Reducing the number of bags we collect and extending this over a longer period of time helps ensure minimal disruptions to future collections. If we miss collections and the weather doesn’t prevent us returning, we will try to get back as soon as possible."
