A MAN has been fined more than £1,000 for drink driving.

Daniel Owen Barrow appeared in court via video after he drove his Audi SQ5 Quattro while over the legal limit in Ulverston.

The 31-year-old admitted that he committed the offence on December 6 when he faced South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard the defendant had 71microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath having been tested by police - the legal limit is 35.

He was caught driving his car in Victoria Road.

Magistrates sentenced the defendant, of Kendal Street in Barrow, to a fine of £1,250.

They also banned him from driving for a total of 40 months.

Sentencing him, chair of the bench Stephen Sim said: “We have given you credit for your early guilty plea and we understand you took the decision to report to the police station.

“However you did leave the scene and the standard of your driving fell below what was expected - and there was damage to property.”

Barrow was also told to pay a £125 surcharge to fund victim services and £85 in costs for bringing the case to court.

Barrow, who works offshore, appeared remotely.
