A COMMUNITY centre in Ulverston has been put forward to be approved as a designated vaccination hub.

Ulverston Community Health Centre in Stanley Street is hoped to become the next site in South Cumbria where mass vaccination of vulnerable residents will take place.

According to Ulverston Town Council, patients who are registered with any GP in Ulverston, Dalton, Askam, and Duddon Valley will be invited to the vaccination centre by the NHS in priority order over the coming months.

The announcement comes a week after the GSK Sports and Social Club was also put forward by NHS North West as the next potential Covid-19 vaccination hub of the South Lakes.

The vaccine roll-out, which began in the county on Tuesday December 15, has already been administered to nearly 2,000 people across Cumbria.

The patients who were identified as priority groups for the life-saving vaccine were contacted first by their GP surgery to book an appointment.

Ulverston Self Isolation Group is managing the stewarding of the roll-out scheme - and is appealing for more volunteers.

A spokesman said: "Specific responsibilities include supervising vehicle movements and parking in the health centre car park, supervising and providing assistance to patients and their carers who are waiting in the queue to be vaccinated, and directing patients and carers to vaccination and waiting areas within the health centre building.

"If you have medical qualifications and experience, and would like to volunteer to assist with the clinical aspects of the vaccinations, please contact Dr Murray & Partners directly by email at cuccg.ulverstonhealth@nhs.net."
