A ROAD will be closed in order to carry out resurfacing works.

Cumbria County Council has warned that works to the B5277 Grange-over-Sands to Lindale will commence on the night of Monday (January 11) if 'weather permits.'

It added that the road will also be closed in sections between the B5271 Windermere Road and B5277 Lindale Roundabout.

The council said the road will be closed from 6.30pm to 1am for up to ten nights so that 'work can be done safely'.

A signed diversion will operate.

In a statement the council said: "A signed diversion via the A590 and B5271 Windermere Road will operate during the temporary road closure and ‘business as usual’ signs will be in place.

"Access will be maintained for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists."

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet member for Highways, said: “This essential road maintenance work will replace worn-out sections of road with a new, hard-wearing surface, making journeys smoother and safer for drivers. The road will need to be closed to enable our contractor to safely carry out resurfacing.

"To minimise disruption the resurfacing works have therefore been timed to take place in the evening when the road is less busy. We would ask drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys during this period.”
