THE year 2020 saw Cumbria feature heavily on screens at home with some of the biggest shows paying a visit to see what the region has to offer.
Hit BBC show Top Gear was the biggest name to arrive in South Lakeland with the team being confirmed to be filming at Grizedale Forest back in October.
Cricket legend and television star, Freddie Flintoff, could not stop praising the Lake District whilst promoting the show.
He appeared on This Morning on October 15 where he revealed which they had been filming at Grizedale Forest.
Freddie, who presents the hit BBC show alongside Paddy McGuinness, and Chris Harris, appeared on This Morning via video link where he gushed to presenters Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about the 'amazing' locations he was able to visit through the show, including the Lake District.
The Witcher, a fantasy drama on Netflix, filmed its second series in Cumbria after it was confirmed in an Instagram post by actor Henry Cavill, who plays protagonist Geralt of Rivia.
Cavill and his fellow actors were spotted filming scenes at Blea Tarn, Rydal Cave and Hodge Close Quarry at the end of October.
In the same month, which was awash with Cumbria TV appearances Alvin Finch, Kendal Mayor guest starred on writer, actor and stand-up comedian Rosie Jones’ new travelogue series, which saw the northern comic stopping off in the Lakes with her special guest Scarlett Moffatt.
The duo visited food historian Professor Ivan Day at his home in Shap to learn how to cook some of the county’s local delicacies, with councillor Finch responsible for judging the women’s offerings.
Cllr Finch said meeting the women was a great experience and said they were “lovely people.”
“It was a great experience,” he said.
In September we got to see the glimpse of at Supernova, a film shot in the Lake District and stars Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci.
That is due to be released on March 5.
One of the most bizarre entries on this list is a Judge Rinder episode which saw a man who rode through Barrow on a mobility scooter while dressed as a gorilla ordered to pay for property damage.
Judge Rinder struggled to contain roars of laughter after Adam Robinson and Ryan Stone found themselves before the celebrity judge’s unique small claims court in a row over damage to the scooter.
The two men broke out in giggles as they looked back on the January day, when police feared the pretend primate was ‘on the loose’ in Barrow.
