SOUTH Lakeland District Council has encouraged the public to remove areas of glitter and embellishment from Christmas cards before recycling.
The council recommended the pieces torn off could be used to make gift tags for next year's Christmas presents.
A council spokesman said: "The bits you tear off can be reused to make gift tags or even decorations for next year!"
