A COASTGUARD team was called out after reports of a drifting boat in the Walney Channel.

Furness Coastguard were paged on the morning of December 30 to a report of a vessel adrift in the channel.

The team made contact with the informant and managed to identify the vessel, which had drifted north of Jubilee bridge towards North Scale.

Furness coastguard then requested assistance from Barrow Lifeboat, who launched an inshore lifeboat to take the vessel under tow and secure it to a mooring.

In a statement Furness Coastguard said: "The team would like to thank the member of public who noticed this and called to report it.

"Also a big thank you to the RNLI crew for their assistance on such a cold morning."
