Freemasons throughout Furness and South Lakeland have raised £6185 for the area’s food banks.

2000 items of food have also been distributed in the Furness area.

This follows as the Provincial Grand Master, Tony Harrison, urged members to take part in the Freemasons’ Support Local Food Banks Appeal.

As a result of this, £3100 was donated to Barrow and Ulverston food banks.

In addition to this, a young mason from Barrow, who works at Sellafield, was able to secure £250 from the company.

This amount was sent directly to the central food bank office in Barrow.

Dalton Food Bank received £1500 on top of the £660 it received from Dalton in Furness Lodge No 6828 during the first lockdown.

Members of Arthur John Brogden Lodge No 1715 in Grange donated £675 to the area’s food bank.

The Food donated was collected by volunteers and stored in the Fairfield Masonic Hall in Barrow for the appropriate period.

It was divided between Spring Mount Food Bank, Walney and the Homeless Support Group, Bath Street, Barrow.

Catherine Irish, from the Homeless Support Group, was overcome when she saw the amount to be taken back to their centre.

As part of the Freemasons’ Support Local Food Banks Appeal, members were asked to save one of item of food per day in November.

These items were collected and distributed over the weekend of 12 December.
