A COUNCILLOR has praised a new business in Askam for opening in 'challenging times'.

Cllr Ben Shirley, who represens Askam on Barrow Council, endorsed Southward’s Farmshop after visiting the business.

Cllr Shirley said: “Fresh, British and local - tonight’s tea sorted, courtesy of Southward's farmshop - Askam’s newest local business.

“It’s great to see a new business opening up in these challenging times.

"Andrew and Gavin have done an amazing job.

"The shop looks fantastic and the quality of the produce is second to none.

“I bumped into my Mum who was also shopping in there, and it’s great to see so many people walking down to buy local, supporting a local family so that we retain a quality business for us all to continue to enjoy.”

Southward’s Farmshop, located on Station Yard, have only been open for a number of days.

The shop opened its doors for the first time on November 28.
