A BARROW resident woke up to find that his street had been covered in mud after contractors performed work on his road.
Paul Webb, 48, of Middlefield Road, complained to Balfour Beatty after work was performed outside his home.
Paul, who works as a security guard, said the response he got from the company was unsatisfactory and that the mess was left for two days.
He said: “It looks really bad out there. They have done about four pieces of work near my house and when I came home, I found that they had pumped the water from the sewer into the road.
“It has now dried and turned the street into a mud pie.
“It’s day three and it’s still there.
“I sent a complaint to the Belford, they said they’d get the area manager to deal with it, and two hours later it was twice as bad.
“When I went out to take some pictures of the mess, the two lads working there started saying you can’t take photos. They shouted ‘get yourself a job’ and they’d call the police.
“Another woman complained to them as well.
“I understand they have to work, but they can’t just leave the road in this state and abuse people who raise an issue with them.”
A spokesperson for Cadent, the contractors for Balfour Beatty, said: “Contractors working on our behalf were carrying out essential gas mains replacement work in the area, and unfortunately due to the nature of the work and weather conditions, it can get messy.
"Cadent expect all contractors carrying out these works to ensure they leave a site as they found it.
"A road sweeper will be returning to site by Monday to clear any remaining debris and we would like to apologise to the customer for any disruption this incident has caused.”
