A BARROW woman’s sacrifice has ensured that her and her husband will have many more years of happiness together.
Lynne Ashton, 58, from Douglas Street, Barrow, donated one of her kidneys to save the life of her husband David.
He was suffering from a condition known as Polycystic syndrome which prevented his lungs from functioning. He required several hours of dialysis every day and needed surgery.
Lynne said: “I did what I did because I couldn’t bear the thought of him living like that. I couldn’t live without him.
“I just wanted him to be better. That’s all I wished for.
“We have been together for 17 years and married for nine. We found out about the condition in March after we were married in December that year.
“He’s on the mend now. He’s back at work after spending a few nights at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
“I’m a little poorly now but I’ve been to Furness General and they have been absolutely amazing. Special thanks to the people on Ward 4 for taking care of everything.”
Lynne owns the Just Kidding hairdressers in Barrow, which she has owned for 25 years.
She also joked: “Now he’s all better and I’m knackered. Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea. I still had to get him a present in November for his birthday. He owes me big style next year.
"Donna and Alan are our best friends in the world. Thank you so much. We love you both."
Lynne has two children, Shaun, 37, Mikala, 36. Two children in law, Ruth, 34 who works in an ICU and Gareth, 40. She also has four grand kids, Ruby, 11, Oliver, 9, Edielyn 6, and Zac, 6.
Her incredible act earned her the nomination by her friend Donna Christie, 50, of Schneider Road, Barrow.
Donna said: “She is just the best person ever.
“It’s been a really tough time, but they strove through it.
“David is Alan’s, my husband, best friend. They’re our best friends.
“She is such a generous person and she’ll always do anything she can for anyone.
“She didn’t think twice about donating when she found out she was a match. It gave him a lifeline which means they can have their happiness back. God bless you Lynne.”
