A BARROW golf club is looking forward to reopening next week.

Furness Golf Club will be allowed to reopen its doors after the current lockdown finishes on December 2.

All of the country’s golf clubs will be allowed to reopen, regardless of which tier restrictions they currently fall under.

On Thursday, Barrow was placed in Tier 2, which is classed as high level.

John Woodhouse, captain at Furness Golf Club, is pleased that the golf club can return to some sort of normality after the four-week lockdown.

Mr Woodhouse said: “It is really good news.

“I am sure all of our members will be waiting to play again and booking their tee times from Wednesday morning onwards.”

Rule of Six restrictions will apply to the golf club, as well as social distancing measures.

However, Mr Woodhouse is confident they can keep the club running in a Covid-safe way.

“We have implemented our processes so every member that goes onto the golf course has to pre-book their tee time, they can’t just turn up and play," he said.

“There is also social distancing rules in place.

“As with all golf courses at the moment you can't touch the bags or anybody else’s equipment.

“Social distancing has never been a problem on the golf course. Everybody is going in the same direction so it’s a safe environment.”
