A BAND who originally signed with a ground-breaking Dudley record company are back together – after a 35-year break.

Midlands group Whizz for Atoms were on the books of Dudley-based Graduate Records back in the 80s.

Graduate had the distinction of being the first independent UK Record Label to secure a top 10 hit when they launched UB40 on the road to global stardom!

Whizz recorded their original material in the same studio with the same producer, Bob Lamb, who also launched the careers of other Midlands bands such as Duran Duran and Ruby Turner.

Whizz didn’t quite have UB40s success, but were well known playing gigs in Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

They made a number of TV appearances and had plenty of radio play, as well as extensively touring UK college and club venues until they decided to call it a day and go their separate ways in the winter of 1986.

They slowly slowly drifted apart to places as far away as New York, Australia and the Fiji Islands, but have now come back together to sign for Cherry Red Records and launch a new single, a 35 "Touch With Love" on Friday (Nov 27).

The song was actually written in the 1980s, so should be a walk down memory lane for the Dudley music lovers of 35 years aho.
