OFFICERS are appealing for witnesses after a video surfaced of an assault which reportedly involved six women.

An investigation has been launched after an assault reportedly occurred on Hindpool Road in Barrow on September 30.

The investigations follows a video that was sent to officers of the incident which is believed to have involved six women.

Bill McEwan, Barrow Borough Councillor, condemned the incident as 'atrocious'.

He said: "It's just not on to have a brawl in the middle of the street.

"It's atrocious that these things are happening in the town.

"I'm not sure what time this assault happened but if it was in the day time when there was children about, that really isn't nice to see."

Cllr McEwan is urging any witnesses or people with information about the incident to come forward.

He said: "I hope witnesses come forward police can get to the bottom of it."

Police are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "Following new lines of inquiry, police are appealing for information into an assault that is reported to have occurred on Hindpool Road, Barrow on September 30. "The investigations follows a video that was sent to officers of the incident which is believed to have involved six women. "Enquiries have been made to identify those involved and officers are now appealing for anyone with information or who might have witnessed the incident."
