READERS are reacting to a coronavirus vaccine developed in the UK, which can prevent up to 90 per cent of people from getting Covid-19, according to new data.

AstraZeneca and Oxford University announced that their jab is effective in preventing many people getting ill and has been shown to work in different age groups, including the elderly.

One of the dosing patterns used by the scientists suggested 90 per cent effectiveness if one half dose is given followed by a further full dose.

Here's what our readers had to say.

It is understandable some people are concerned about side effects of the vaccine but we have been vaccinated against many viruses in our lives and I personally have had TB, mumps, measles, yellow fever, flu, hepatitis and rubella vaccinations. The reports from all the trials will be released and you can read and digest these at your leisure. I hope news agency's provide links to the reports so people can skip misinformation and conspiracy sites as they just scare people into believing falsity."

Roger Cresswell said: "They're not using me as a human guinea pig. No way am I taking it."

Noah Mansoon said: "Tested on a mere handful of folk, you'd have to be insane to allow yourself to be injected with this stuff. I'll get my safeguard by sitting back and watch if it works - if it does then I like my exponentially increasing odds (which were very good to start with), if it doesn't and god forbid there's side effects, then good for me and bigger fool you. Win win."

Notfarwrong said: "Most drugs are tested over a long period of time. Why wouldn't people be cautious?"

nosensenononsense said: "Of course you realise that in order to suppress the outbreak, immunity ie vaccine take up needs to be in the 70% range and by advocating non participation you are happy to see the outbreak continue."

Helen Bach said: "You know how Bozo will be on in a bit to tell is its all going very well and their great lockdown is responsible. And because its going so well and we all enjoyed it so much we're going to have more until magic vaccine arrives? Do you remember when Bozo, Glum and Glummer said there's a two to three week lag? Well we are only just into week three, so this is from the non-lockdown October/Nov patients.

Now that would mean things were already dropping off before lockdown two, of course I could be wrong and any day now the wondrous lockdown two will prove how effective it was and the figures will fall off a cliff."
