BBC Radio Cumbria's Barrow office is due to be sold at auction.

The station's Hartington Street base will go under the hammer on December 9 with a guide price of £100,000.

According to a listing, the offices and studio are leased to the BBC until 2024 at a rate of around £11,000 a year.

A listing by Bonde Wolf Auctions said: "The property comprises offices/broadcasting studio on the ground floor only.

"Occupying a prominent location at the junction of Abbey Road and Hartington Street very close to the main shopping area and railway station."

The auction is due to take place online at 9am on December 9.

The BBC announced in May it was to close a number of its regional offices in an effort to reduce costs.

A spokesman said: "We have 39 broadcast bases across England.

"These sites are supported by a number of very small, often unstaffed sites in nearby locations. "New technology means these smaller sites are no longer needed."
